take the long view

To consider the long-term consequences of something. Primarily heard in UK, Ireland. The board is taking the long view and is recommending to invest to make the company sustainable. You need to take the long view on this and stop only thinking about what will happen today. Brian was a bit of a troublesome student and tended to take the mick whenever class began.
