1. To strike or assault one violently and severely. Likened to the cotton stuffing of a stuffed animal being knocked out of it by severe blows. Hey, watch it, pal, or I'll take the stuffing out of you! Two guys dragged me into the alley, took the stuffing out of me, and then made off with my wallet.
2. To sap or deprive one of energy, enthusiasm, determination, etc. Getting a D on a test he'd studied so hard for really took the stuffing out of John. I thought I was in pretty good shape, but running that marathon has taken the stuffing out of me!
