stretch away to (someone or something)
1. To extend or expand outward in the direction of someone or something. Staring out at the ocean from our dinghy in the middle of the sea, the water seemed to stretch away to the very edge of the Earth. The lush green fields stretched away to the dark forest that bordered my grandfather's land.
2. To transport someone away to or toward something or some place. In this usage, a noun or pronoun can be used between "stretch" and "away." They stretched the survivors away to an emergency medical shelter they had erected near the site of the accident. The last thing I saw was the doctors stretching away your mother to the emergency room.
