To briefly stop in or visit some place during the course of a journey. I thought it was a direct flight to Dublin, but we're actually stopping off in Denver. I need to stop off at the grocery store on my way back home.
stop off (some place) (for a period of time)
to halt or pause for a certain period of time. I need to stop off for a rest. Let's find a little town and stop off. I have to stop off at the store for a minute. We stopped off for a while at the park.
Also, stop over. Interrupt a journey for a short stay somewhere, as in When we drove through Massachusetts we stopped off for a few days at Cape Cod, or When you're in the area try to stop over and see our new house. [Mid-1800s]
To interrupt one's course or journey briefly in order to visit or do business somewhere: I stopped off at the gas station on my way home. We stopped off in San Francisco for a night before continuing on to Honolulu.
