To be very visible, conspicuous, or out of place in contrast to someone's or something's surroundings or background. Their bright-orange house really sticks out against the rest of the neighborhood. A lot of adolescents and teenagers go to great lengths not to stick out against their classmates in school. The artist makes a point of having the people in the painting stick out against the landscape.
