shine

1. informal A prank, trick, caper, etc. Used plurally. Your shines are going to get you in real trouble some day, young lady!
2. informal A strong liking (for someone or something). The old man down the road usually hates kids, but he took a shine to precocious little Billy Watkins, who won him over with endearing self-confidence. I've always had a shine for old black-and-white movies. There's something so comforting about them.
3. slang A shortening of "moonshine." Be careful with that stuff. My uncle Hector went blind from drinking too much shine.
4. offensive slang, dated A derogatory term for a Black person.
