set (someone, something, or oneself) up as (someone or something)

To do or arrange what is necessary for someone, something, or oneself to succeed at, function as, or act in the capacity of something. My friend set me up as a box office manager in the theater where he works. I'm working on a degree in finance to set myself up as an accountant.
