run around with (one's) hair on fire

To act wildly or irrationally, especially as a result of fear or panic. My mom is the calmest person I know. The world could be ending, and she still wouldn't run around with her hair on fire. I know you're opposed to this law, but running around with your hair on fire won't solve anything.
