run the risk of (something)

To subject oneself to a particular risk or a high probability of some negative or unfortunate outcome. You always run the risk of upsetting your most loyal fans if you try to do something too innovative with subsequent films. I'd love to pay less taxes, but I'm not going to run the risk of going to jail for it!
