1. To give or send something back in reciprocation for something else. I hate when people return compliments for compliments just for the sake of being polite. The boss returned high praise for Janet's work on the project.
2. To give or send something back in exchange for something else. You can bring empty bottles to a number of collection depots and return them for a cash refund. You can return the product for something of an equivalent value within 30 days.
