1. To extend or stretch out downward. I reached down to pick up the coin. The branches of the tree reach all the way down to the ground.
2. To extend, stretch out, or put forth something, especially one's hand, downward. She reached her hand down to help pull me up out of the pit. I gingerly reached my foot down to test how solid the ground was before I stepped off the ladder.
