put (something) on a back burner

To establish something as a low priority; to give something less or little thought, attention, or action. A less common variant of "put something on the back burner." I'm going to be putting work stuff on a back burner for a while once my son is born. This issue can't be put on a back burner by the government, or it could lead to disaster in the near future. I think we should put painting the house on a back burner until we decide on what furniture we want to buy.
