1. To stop, slow, or diminish something. Auto insurers have begun working with legislators to put the freeze on the increasing number of claims made each month. The recent scandal has put the freeze on the candidate's recent surge in the polls.
2. To ignore, stop associating with, or socially isolate someone. I know you're upset with Sarah, but putting the freeze on her like this is a bit much, don't you think? The government has begun putting the freeze on foreign dignitaries from the country following the recent cyber attack.
