1. To stop, slow, or diminish something. Auto insurers have begun working with legislators to put the chill on the increasing number of claims made each month. The recent scandal has put the chill on the candidate's recent surge in the polls.
2. To ignore, stop associating with, or socially isolate someone. I know you're upset with Sarah, but putting the chill on her like this is a bit much, don't you think? The government has begun putting the chill on foreign dignitaries from the country following the recent cyber attack.
