put (one's) head down

1. Literally, to place one's head on a surface, such as a pillow or a table or desk, to rest or take a nap. I feel a little woozy. I think I just need to put my head down for a few minutes.
2. To put forth effort on a task that involves reading or writing. If you just put your head down, you'll finish your paper much faster.
3. To actively avoid conflict or attention. I'm putting my head down at work these days because I don't want to be among the layoffs that are sure to accompany our recent change in leadership.
