punch into (something)

1. To pierce or bore into something with sudden force. We'll need a hydraulic drill to punch into the rock layer.
2. To push something through or into something with great or sudden force. A noun or pronoun can be used between "punch" and "into." I punched a knife into the packaging to cut it open. Be careful when you punch the needle into the calf's hide—you don't want to break it.
