1. verb In auto racing, to leave the race and enter the "pit," an area where cars may be refueled or repaired. It looked like she would win the race, but a fuel leak forced her to pit in on the final lap.
2. noun In auto racing, the action of leaving the race and entering the pit. Sometimes hyphenated. The average tire change in NASCAR, from pit in to pit out, is about 11.5 seconds.
