To be able to be accepted as or believed to be someone or something else. The fact that glass can so easily pass as diamond among most consumers tells me that the gem's value is kind of a hoax. With the right clothes and makeup, I think you could easily pass as an adult.
pass as someone or something
to succeed in being accepted as someone or something. The spy was able to pass as a regular citizen. The thief was arrested when he tried to pass as a priest.
To give some unreal impression that is accepted as real; pass for something: Although he was 30, he could easily pass as a teenager when he shaved his beard.
