1. Extremely agitated, irritated, or annoyed, to the point that one might soon lose patience and react angrily. The students just wouldn't stop goading me all morning. I was already on my last nerve by lunchtime. I could tell Sarah was on her last nerve, so I decided not to bother her.
2. Causing one a lot of irritation, annoyance, or aggravation up to the limit of one's patience. Her sarcastic comments are really starting to get on my last nerve. The kids are working my last nerve. Would you please just take them out to the playground or something before I lose it completely?
