1. To move to one side, especially to get out of someone's or something's way. Move aside so that ambulance can get through, Tom! We all moved aside as the troops came down the hallway.
2. To cause or compel someone or something to move to one side, especially to get out of someone's or something's way. In this usage, a noun or pronoun can be used between "move" and "aside." The police officers moved the people aside as the motorcade left the building. Just move those boxes aside to make room for the sofa.
