make it hot for (someone)

To pressure someone or otherwise make them uncomfortable, usually so that they will change their behavior or act in a certain way. The other students decided to make it hot for the classroom bully so he'd stop picking on the younger kids. If we want this guy to confess, we need to make it hot for him in the interrogation room.
