A person who drinks alcohol habitually or excessively; a drunkard. Don't look at me like I'm some sort of lush—I just enjoy a glass of wine or two with my meals! I didn't notice it on our first couple of dates, but when he started pouring drinks for us on a Sunday afternoon, I started to suspect he might be a lush.

To drink an excessive amount of alcohol; to drink alcohol until one is thoroughly inebriated.
