look as if (one) has lost a shilling and found sixpence

To look very sad, disappointed, or otherwise unhappy. (When they were used in British currency, a shilling was worth more than sixpence.) Primarily heard in Australia. A: "What's wrong, Fred? You look as if you've lost a shilling and found sixpence." B: "Sarah broke up with me last night." I don't think I've seen Aunt Mildred smile. She always looks as if she's lost a shilling and found sixpence.
