To have the best possible appearance, as from having been groomed, dressed, or prepared. It's important to look your best when you're going in for a job interview, or else they may not take you seriously. I'm sorry the house doesn't look its best for your visit. I've been so busy with the kids that I haven't had a chance to clean.
