kick the/(one's) door down
1. Literally, to force the door of a building open with a kick. The firefighter had to kick the door down to get in and save the children from the burning house. Police surrounded the building and then kicked the suspect's door down.
2. By extension, to make a great and clamorous effort to get something beneficial from one. Once we have a foothold in the market, other companies will be kicking our doors down to get a slice of the action. I'm proud of the novel I wrote, but I'm not holding my breath that a publisher will come kicking the door down to publish it anytime soon.
