1. Literally, to emerge (from something or some place) with a sudden leap or dash in the direction of someone. There have been reports of an attacker jumping out at people from the shadows to rob them.
2. To be especially noticeable, conspicuous, or attention-grabbing to one, especially in comparison to the surrounding people or things. I was trying to find a dress to wear to the wedding, but nothing was really jumping out at me. Of all the people in the photo, the man with the mustache jumped out at Detective York as the most suspicious.
