in the space of (an amount of time)

During a certain period or length of time. Usually used to emphasize that the amount of time is quite small, relative to what is being done. In the space of just a few hours, I've been fired, dumped, and evicted. I don't think things could get any worse. I traveled the entire length of the west coast in the space of two days.
