if you would be well served, serve yourself

A phrase warning against delegating tasks to others, especially those hired to work for you. Yet another dreadful meal from this new chef, ugh. I guess it's true what they say—if you would be well served, serve yourself.

Prov. You should do things for yourself, since you cannot trust other people to do them exactly the way you want. I would never hire a maid, because a maid wouldn't clean things the way I want them cleaned. Like they say: if you would be well served, serve yourself.
