To celebrate someone by bestowing something upon or host something for them. Before she retired, my Mom's co-workers honored her with a party. The class honored their beloved teacher with a special award.

to show one's respect for someone with something, such as a gift, party, ceremony, a response, etc. We would like to honor you with a little reception. We chose to honor you with a little gift.
