1. To be made available for sale or auction. A huge number of the famous actor's possessions are going up for auction to cover his overdue tax bill. Another house has gone up for sale in our neighborhood.
2. To enter the process of obtaining or being awarded some role, position, or advancement. I never tell people when I'm going up for a promotion. It saves me some embarrassment if I don't get it. I heard you went up for an audition last week. How'd it go?
3. In cricket, to lodge an appeal with the umpire that the batsman is out. The keeper went up for a stumping appeal.
