To grant permission or approval for something to happen or proceed, or for someone to proceed with some action or task. Likened to the green light of a traffic signal indicating that a car may proceed through an intersection. We're just waiting for our manager to give the green light to us before we release the latest software update. Good news! The boss gave the green light to our project—she said we can get started right away! A: "Has anyone given the green light to painting in here?" B: "No, hold off for now."
