To give one a chance or opportunity to do or attempt something. Give Sarah a try at the equation. I bet she can solve it! You had your chance, now give your brother a try at breaking the piñata. Hey, you've been hogging the new pogo stick to yourself. Give me a try!

give (something) a try

To try something (often for the first time as a means of forming an opinion about it). A: "Do you want to try driving my car, to see how you like it?" B: "Yeah, sure, I'll give it a try." I have given hiking a try in the past—it's just not for me.
