1. To become excessive in one's enthusiasm, excitement, zeal, etc., especially in conversation. She started getting carried away during her story, frantically describing every detail of what happened. Sorry, I got a little carried away there—I just love talking about my favorite artists!
2. To do something to an extreme or excessive degree, especially unintentionally. Wow, it seems our interior designer got a little carried away. I mean, how many pairs of decorative antlers does one house need? I was just planning to clean the bathroom, but I got carried away and did all the windows and the floors, too.
