To quickly discharge or release something and direct it toward someone or something. A noun or pronoun can be used between "fire" and "back." "Yeah, but why is that my fault?" Sheila fired back at me defensively. We ran for cover when we heard him fire his gun back at us. I know you're upset, but don't fire an email back at her in anger—wait until you're calmer.
