1. informal No longer partaking of alcoholic beverages; sober. Said especially of recovering alcoholics. I had a real drinking problem in college, but I've been dry for nearly four years now. The holidays are the hardest part of the year to stay dry.
2. informal Opposed to selling and/or consuming alcohol, as of a place or town. Ocean City is a dry town, so you have to bring booze with you when you come down. My parents really want me to pick that school because it's a dry campus.

DRY

An acronym for "don't repeat yourself," a principle used in computer programming with the intent of reducing repetitive or redundant code in software development. You need to make sure your software architecture is clear and well planned, which will result in nice, DRY code that is more efficiently written and more easily reused in other projects.
