1. noun Respect, acknowledgement, or appreciation. Yo, mad daps to your granny, bro. She is always so awesome whenever we come around to visit.
2. noun A stylized, ritualistic handshake in which one grasps someone's hand by the palm with one's thumb hooked around theirs, before sliding each other's hands apart until grasping each other's fingertips. My friend and I always give each other daps whenever we pass by in the halls on the way to class.
3. adjective Stylish and sophisticated (short for "dapper"). He was so dap in his crushed velvet suit.

dap it up

slang To grasp someone's hand by the palms with one's thumb hooked around theirs, then sliding each other's hands apart until grasping each other's fingertips. Used as a gesture of greeting, celebration, agreement, or enthusiasm. Primarily heard in US. We all dapped it up with John after he sank the game-winning shot from the three-point line. My grandma is the coolest. She always daps it up with my friends whenever she sees them.
