cliché Someone who, perhaps foolishly or absurdly, always believes in the best or most hopeful outcomes. I appreciate your cheery attitude, Tom, but I don't need a cockeyed optimist as an advisor—I need someone a bit more grounded in reality. A: "You really think that you can win them over with this idea?" B: "What can I say? I've always been a bit of a cockeyed optimist."
