close (one's) eyes
1. To willfully ignore, pretend not to notice, or choose not to deal with something. Our boss would rather close his eyes than figure out how to keep the company from going bankrupt.
2. To sleep, usually briefly. Just let me close my eyes for a few minutes—I'm exhausted. Mom went upstairs to close her eyes, but I can probably help you. What do you need?
