To choose a less expensive option or course of action in order to reduce cost, especially at the expense of quality or reliability. A: "We've had to have so many repairs done to the house over the last year." B: "Well, that's what you get for cheapening out on building materials." Instead of investing the time and money to get the software right from the beginning, they cheapened out and went for the lowest-quality developers they could find.
