carry on with (something)

1. To continue or proceed with something. In this usage, the phrase can be used as an imperative. I'm sorry for all the interruptions—please, carry on with your story. We all just carried on with our work, pretending that we couldn't hear the shouting in the boss's office.
2. To persevere with something. We cannot let ourselves be defeated. We must carry on with our plan!
