1. Literally, to hold or support something while moving in an upward direction or to a higher level. A noun or pronoun can be used between "carry" and "up." Our porter will carry up your bags for you. My son was asleep in my arms and the elevator had stopped working, so I had to carry him up four flights of stairs to our apartment.
2. Of sound, to reach or extend in an upward direction or to a higher level. We spoke in a whisper so our voices wouldn't carry up to the kids' bedrooms. The music from the neighbor's apartment in the basement is carrying up the entire length of the house.
3. dated To build or erect something. A noun or pronoun can be used between "carry" and "up." Those bricklayers you hired weren't even able to carry up a simple wall without screwing it up. My great-grandfather carried up this building nearly 100 years ago all by himself.
