To yield one's beliefs or principles in order to conform. The phrase is Biblical in origin and refers to the Syrian god, Rimmon. I am morally opposed to animal testing, so I can't work for that company! I refuse to bow down in the house of Rimmon just to get a job.

Rimmon was a god worshipped in ancient Damascus; the source of this phrase is Naaman's request in 2 Kings 5:18, ‘when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the Lord pardon thy servant in this thing’.
