an article of faith
Something that one believes strongly, whether or not it is actually true. My mother takes it as an article of faith that the government is always right and should never be questioned. In prep school, it is taken as an article of faith that everyone must go on to college. As a kid, you just take it as article of faith that your parents know everything.

To be the original, authentic person or thing; to be the very best example of a type of person or thing. Someone or something who has arrived at a point or state of completion or readiness. If you describe something or someone as the genuine article, you mean that they are the original, rather than a copy, or are a real and good example of something. His wrist-watch, in contrast to Keating's genuine article, was a cheap Hong Kong imitation of a Cartier. Their goalkeeper is the genuine article and gives the team confidence between the goalposts.
