If a market or an economy is bumping along the bottom, it has reached a low level of performance, and is not getting any better or any worse. He warned that the economy seemed to be bumping along the bottom. Note: You can also say that something is bumping along at the bottom. People are beginning to sense that we are bumping along at the bottom, but we are not going any further down.
