Police have launched a 'Shop A Chop Shop
' campaign urging the public to report any suspicions to 101.
Just one investigation by West Midlands Police this year into a gang understood to have bought more than 250 write-offs at salvage auctions led to officers uncovering 90 stolen cars at a chop shop
"There has been had a surge in people reporting chop shops since we launched a Shop a Chop Shop
campaign last summer."
Police, who launched a 'Shop a Chop Shop
' campaign in August, said a total of 16 engines were confirmed as coming from cars stolen in the West Midlands, plus another driven off by thieves in Cardiff.
