there are no atheists in foxholes

Because people in foxholes face mortal danger, they often believe in a higher power, regardless of their previous religious or spiritual beliefs. (A "foxhole" is a small pit in which soldiers shelter themselves from enemy fire.) It doesn't surprise me that people so often say that there are no atheists in foxholes. Wouldn't you turn to a higher power if your life were in immediate danger?
