take a peek

To inspect or glance at (someone or something) in a quick, sneaky, or surreptitious manner. I took a peek at the boss's computer, and it looks like there's a round of layoffs on the way. I knew I wasn't supposed to look at the presents in our parents' closet, but I couldn't resist taking a peek.
