suspension of disbelief

The ability to ignore or look past one's incredulity at the improbability of something that occurs within a piece of fiction in order to better enjoy the experience of the work. A lot of people love the movie for its campy style and over-the-top action, but I just don't have enough suspension of disbelief to enjoy it. A: "Oh, come on—that's so unrealistic! Where would they ever get the money to do that in real life?" B: "Oh, lighten up. Where's your suspension of disbelief?"
