strike (one's) eye

To attract or capture one's attention, especially due to being visually appealing, interesting, or impressive. It was a fairly drab, ordinary room. There was, however, one painting tucked in the corner that did immediately strike my eye for its vibrant and imaginative use of color. Her athletic prowess on the field struck my eye from the very first time I saw her play.
