steer (one) wrong

To give one poor, inaccurate, or misleading information or advice. My advisor really steered me wrong when he pushed me to take this class. I absolutely hate it, and I don't even know if I'll be able to pass! I did my own research to confirm that my doctor wasn't steering me wrong when she suggested this procedure.
